Eat your Cake and Have it too... no, Just have TWO!

Before we get into the meat (or, in this case, the cake) of this post, I would like to gratefully accept this award from a blogger who not only brings a lot of sunshine and joy into this world but who also is sending the world little, but growing, rays of sunshine through her wonderful children, Lisa at Are We There Yet?

My own 'rules' are to pass any awards on to those of you who so kindly visit me and make my day even better with your comments, so please accept this award from my heart to yours...if you aren't sure, just check my comment boxes and if you're in any of them, then TAG...you're IT!

Below are the official rules.....

Now, here are the rules:
1. Copy the loyal picture above and post it on your blog.
2. Pass it on to who you think who is/are deserving.
3. Leave a message to them. (My message to each of you is that, even though this world we live in is so full of gloom and doom, I believe God put us here for love, peace, prayer and smiles thus making this a better world. I honestly feel that all of you are doing just that, so I thank you and praise you for it as I ask you to please accept this pretty award!)
4. Pass as many as you want.
5. Message back or leave a comment to the owner

Next I have a surprise award for POTD or Post Of The Day and I need to thank both Eddie Bluelights of Clouds and Silvery Linings for nominating me and then for David at Authorblog for bestowing this award on me (And I thought insanity didn't pay off!)....

.

I am pleased to receive POTD runner up from David McMahon at Authorblog.
Thank you very much David - It was a pleasant and very nice surprise to receive this award and I congratulate all the others nominated. By the way, this was for the post about "Favorite...Languages.."

This may look like a long post and if it does, just remember it is mostly PICTURES. Diana at Welcome To My World asked me to post about cake, so you have her to thank for my insane grabbing of a bazillion cake pictures (never met a cake I didn't like).

I'd LOVE to know which of these cakes is your favorite (Angie and Eddie and Joolz too...that's favoUrites for you cuties). Is it this adorable little tea party with cake on top of the cake?...
Or how about these flip flops (my Spring, Summer and into Fall shoes)?.....

For the piano players (or would bes like me), we have a cake that looks like it could play your birthday song for you....

How cute is this with the train and the tracks and the tunnel?.......

Here's one that Michael would love (of course he would miss all the grease, but we could always pour some on his slice!).....

This is a little diversion called a century yam cake...hmmm...think I'll leave it for another century...

Ooooh, lots of pretty colors...coulours (I threw in an extra U for Angie, Joolz and Eddie)...

Whoa...talk about colors...think this cake 'takes the cake' on lots of colors...

For those who love a day at the spa and wish they could look like this, here is the cake for you....

Think 'yummy' might describe these two cakes and look at all that fruit...it has to be good for you...

For those looking for a lovely boutique look (is this you, Eddie?) with a cake that looks as if you could open it up....

Oh yes, into each life a little rain (cake rain?) must fall. I came across this cake described as a green tea lemon pudding cake (even though it does look like mold to me, I'd probably try it anyway)....

Cheese is so delicious and now you can have it on your cake, with cute little mice to boot!....

This ingenious cake is so perfect if we can just figure out how to carry it. For those of us in "cakea holics", you just carry this around like a purse and say you are checking your make-up or looking for keys, etc. and voila...you grab a piece of the cake and just munch away, with no one the wiser!...

This one is simple and pretty and elegant and pink...bet Eileen wants this in her kitchen...

Chocolate just says it all and then to make it art...wow...

For those having a hard time deciding, we have this nice display. I used to say that I'd be so happy just locked up in a library, but I think I'd want this to be in the library too! Then, when Michael came looking for me, they could say she's in the fiction aisle all the way through to the non fiction aisle!! ...

These are wedding cake samples and choices...after this, the bride can no longer fit in her dress...

Because we need to remain informed and educated, here is something from the Internet with which you can dazzle your friends and astound your (hopefully non existent) enemies...

"Birthday Trivia

More people celebrate their birthdays in August than in any other month (about 9% of all people). The two other months that rate high for birthdays are July and September.
Close to 2 billion Birthday Cards are sent each year in the U.S. alone, accounting for nearly 58 percent of all cards sent.
The world's largest birthday cake was created in 1989 for the 100th Birthday of the city of Fort Payne, Alabama. The cake weighed 128,238 pounds, 8 oz. and used 16,209 pounds of icing.

The most famous rendition of "Happy Birthday" is when Marilyn Monroe sang to "Happy Birthday, Mr President" to President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden on 19 May 1962.
Paul McCartney's Birth Certificate was auctioned in March 1997, for US $84,146. It is believed to be the world's most expensive Birth Certificate.
The Sultan of Brunei hosted the world's most expensive Birthday Party to celebrate his 50th Birthday on 13 July, 1996. The cost was a whopping US $27.2 million. Three concerts featuring Michael Jackson costs US $16 million of the total amounts.
Anne Frank's world famous diary was given to her as a present for her 13th birthday.
William Shakespeare's died on his 52nd birthday: 23 April 1616.
A recent survey suggests that more people are born on October 5 in the United States than any other day. October 5 holds a not-so-surprising significance, as conception would have fallen on New Year's Eve.

The least common birth date in the U.S. is May 22nd."
Two funny pictures and only one joke, but it's a goodie...

A great fruit cake recipe

You'll need the following: a cup of water, a cup of sugar, four large eggs, two cups of dried fruit, a teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of salt, a cup of brown sugar, lemon juice, nuts, and a bottle of whisky.

Sample the whisky to check for quality.

Take a large bowl. Check the whisky again. To be sure it is the highest quality, pour one level cup and drink. Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again.

Make sure the whisky is still okay. Cry another tup. Turn off the mixer. Break two leggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the cup of dried fruit. Mix on the turner. If the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers pry it loose with a drewscriver.

Sample the whisky to check for tonsisticity. Next, sift two cups of salt. Or something. Who cares? Check the whisky. Now sift the lemon juice and strain your guts. Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find.

Grease the oven. Turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don't forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out of the window, check the whisky again and go to bed.

~~~Thank You Lord for the blessings of beauty created by man and woman but that only pales in comparison to Your Creation...May we unceasingly appreciate Your creation.
  1. Whew...think I may have put on a few pounds just doing this post but I sure was in cake Heaven here. Guess I should have issued a warning...do NOT read this post if you are even a tiny bit hungry!
    If you can't eat some today, I wish all of you to be blessed with sweet dreams filled with cake that makes you more slender with every bite...hey, it's a dream so anything goes!
  2. Marcy that was just too difficult of a choice for me...I would have loved eating any of them...but I guess I will choose the hamburger cake if only by default, because I once received one almost just like it...I have an ols photo of it somewhere...a poloroid photo, remember them?
    I baked a German Chocolate cake yesterday with extra coconut and chocolate frosting on the side...so even though it's only 10:00 in the morning I hear it calling my name for a mid morning snack...all thanks to your beautiful post.
    Congratulations on your recognition and for the award. You say PLEASE take, does that mean it would make you feel good if the villagers displayed it too?
    Smiles to you Marcy,
    Wanda
  4. I was going to choose two, the one you said I'd want in my kitchen and the chocolate one below it too, but then I read Wanda's comment and now I want the German Chocolate cake with the extra coconut and chocolate frosting on the side. Yummy!
    Most birthdays in the month of August? I guess that means November is a very busy month for 'getting busy'.
    'Won't be posting for awhile but will be visiting when I can.
    Busy, busy, busy. (No, not THAT kind of busy).
    Love, E
  12. I had to run through the blog as fast as I could go. I peeked only enough to get the idea but if I stopped to read, I was afraid the past 5 months of weight loss would be reversed in 5 minutes!
  13. Hi Marcy
    Thank you very much for the award - I shall hold it aloft and bow to everyione saying, "It gives me great pleasure to accept this award, not only for me but for the entire team, the writers, the crew, the producers and the director but . . . (sob sob) . . most of all you, Mr and Mrs Joe public without whom I could never have managed to do anything without their valued support . . . . etc . . etc".
    Marcy, your post is beginning to resemble a Monty Python review with all its constituent sketches and newsy poeces and jokes so ably woven together. We have philosophy, high class chefery, humor (if you can't beat them join 'em! - no 'u' in America), joy, sadness . . . etc. It must take you ages and ages and ages to gather the info, type it in, spell check it with something that will not recognise 'u' letters, edit it and present it - I feel sorry for Michael, "Where is my tea?" he might ask, "Sorry Mickey-Poo I am blogging today, tomorrow, the day after next and for ever - there are some cookies in the fridge or you could get some fish and chips - Oh there's lots and lots and lots of cake. It's coming out of my blooming ears - just look at it all! It's all over the blog. We are all cakeoholics! That mad ambulanceman, Eddie Bluelights, has eaten so much of EVERYTHING he has had to unbutton his trousers because he has stomach ache and now he is extremely fearful his trousers will fall down.
    Loved the post, Marcy - see you soon ~ Eddie
