To Dream The Impossible Dream..Favorites...A Computer That always Works

This WOULD be my favorite if it existed
But right now my computer seems quite twisted
Sometimes it turns on twice
And that is certainly not very nice...
It's trying to drive me crazy
But maybe it's just being lazy?
Still I'm counting my blessings
That there aren't even more "messings."

Yup, the last line was pretty lame but the verses are too true. Even while trying to do this post, the keyboard suddenly decided to freeze (and it's in the 80s today).

I know that it needs more memory (but so do I), so we've ordered some, but meanwhile the computer and I pretty much look like this...

This is one of those 'fly by night' repair men, but looks like he has the right idea after a few frustrating sessions...

Wish I had this to fix the computer woes...maybe my keyboard would work ALL the time...

Would like to give it a lobotomy, but I would be practicing without a license (or enough knowledge for sure)....

When I typed in references to a perfect computer, this is one picture that came up...does ANYONE see any connection here?....

Sometimes, Maxine just says it all...

This is NOT an office computer so it only has itself to blame...hmmm, well, we do have Michael's computer in the same room....
This is the letter C and it stand for CRAZY where my computer is driving me!.....

Wish this police officer would give my computer a ticket, not this little law breaker!....

Now, for an appropriate "joke" for today, BUT is it REALLY a joke???

Subject: A Spanish Lesson

A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.

'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la casa.'
'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'

A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'

Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.

The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:

1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;

2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;

3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and

4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.

The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:

1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;

2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;

3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and

4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.

The women won.

~~~Lord, I truly do thank You for the blessing of the many times this computer has worked and I pray You help it to continue to do so.
  1. My hubby is having the same problems with his work computer. Computers are great when they work, and a headache when they don't.
    Happy Friday, friend, and have a good weekend!
  2. Sorry you are having computer turmoil Marcy...but Blogger seems to be having their share too...I was unable to leave comments the other day, well I left them, just wasn't aware they were being taken and not delivered, until I revisited later in the day.
    Your gender computer comparisons were so funny, yet true...I'm still amazed how you continue to come up with so many new jokes and funny quotes all the time Marcy.
    I thought of you when reading about the wild dogs attacking the couple out walking...was that anywhere near you? Hope not! A black bear and possibly a mountain lion were spotted a few miles from here, which is very uncommon!
    Times are changing!
    Take care,
  3. Hi Marcy, I feel your frustration. I have been having problems with my computer too. Some days it takes me twice as long to do one thing on it. It makes it difficult to keep up with everything I want to do. That's why I took a little break. I figure it's God's way of telling me I was spending to much time on the computer LOL I hope you get all of your clitches fixed because I do enjoy reading your posts every day and I would miss you very much.
  4. Marcy....even with computer problems, you write a terrific like you! You can take lemons and make lemonade....and that is why you are among my favourite (spelling is for Eddie) people.
  5. I so can share your computer woes. But nothing is perfect so it goes. I have had many a dream of chucking it out into the street and watching it smash into a million pieces! Visualization, it's calming!
    Love Di
  6. LOL.... Too funny your joke and yet so very true. I'm sorry to hear your having a tizzy with your puter. I do not like it when mine acts up either. That usually calls for a format or total wipe out. I simply don't tolerate an non comitted puter. Either work or don't. I'm also careful to watch the direction of that metaphorical lightning bolt as well... :)
  7. well to top it off, my brilliant son who lives 4 hours away, is a computer wizard, he does it for a living for a restaurant business and all there in house computers....he builds from scratch and makes wonderful very advanced computer gadgets you think for one minute that I would have the most updated computer....NOT! so I too plug along....and just wait sometime 5-10 minutes for something to download. Heaven forbid I log a post from my home computer! NEVER! hehehe PS do you have an e-mail address? I would love to add you to my list of messenger friends! It is such a wonderful way to keep in INSTANT touch for a quick message?
  8. LOVE your post and can so commiserate! It's very frustrating! Sometimes it takes so long to upload pictures, and sometimes you write nice long comments and then they disappear on you (like Wanda!), and sometimes I'm typing and the keyboard is not responding or very slow to respond (like now!) Ugh! It seems to take at least twice as long as it should to do anything! And to top it all off Blogger wigs out half the time too!
    Jeepers Creepers! How can anything we love so much give us so much trouble?! (Sounds like my family! hee-hee!)
    Seriously, I do get lots of enjoyment out of this machine, but I also gets lots of frustration!
    Lately when it gives me trouble I'll just end up abandoning my post!
    Comments here are the greatest! It's like reading another post!
    Wanda ~ STOP walking in the woods if there are bears and mountain lions about! Or at least arm yourself with some mace please!
    Diana and her 'visualization', do you think we can do that with people too?!
    (I warned you I had a mean streak!)
    Have a great weekend, Poppins!
    Love you, E
  9. I will have to share that computer joke with my husband. He's a big time computer whiz.
  10. Okay, I just lost NINE answers to each comment here, so why are blogger and the computer ganging up on me? Well take this you old blogger you...let's see if you lose this in cyberspace...just remember I've got friends in high places (step ladders, tall buildings etc.)
  11. Scared, aren't you Blogger? Well, there's more where this came from!! I KNOW where you live, blogger baby!
  12. ***Well Joni, after this fiasco right now I think I have a headache, but the first time I commented back I suggested that the computer could have a headache and we should give IT an aspirin!
    ***Wanda please be careful with lions and bears around...a few miles away is WAY too close and even Snow White has to be careful. Will check out where those dogs were. We are 30-45 minutes (as the crow flies or the traffic jams)southeast of Atlanta.
    ***Carol, I like to keep on trying until me or the computer get frustrated...this is metal and buttons and lots of other gook, so how can it win? Shhh...don't let the computer know I said that!
    ***Jackie, it's so good to see you commenting and hanging out at the Village here. You're a teacher and you're good at disciplining...can you make my computer go to detention?
    I see that youu aure trying to becoume moure Briutish, muy deaur, but youu siumplu muust uuse moure Us, youu knouw.
    Also you will have to keep a stiff upper lip and use their wonderful accent and it's not easy to do those at the same time...wonder how Angie and Eddie do it?
  13. ***Diana, you poor baby, you have really had some computer nightmares...I was going to suggest non violence till mine started getting even worse...but I do think maybe a picture and darts could help!
    ***Tammy I cannot format but I am sure I can wipe out but it wouldn't be pretty!
    ***Linda, my son is a computer whiz too, but he lives in AZ and even when he comes to visit, he is on vacation...have thought about putting him in the corner but that might look bad to his kids (especially the part where I am strainning my guts out trying to push the big guy in the corner!)
    ***Eileen, you actually abandon a post? Of course that is not like abandoning a baby or anything, but wow, I salvage everything I can. Just re-purpose it and publish some mish mash and let us try to figure it out!
    ***Sarah, remember to tell your hubby that the guys voted on it too...don't tell your hubby that the women had machetes at the time!
  14. 'Meethinks the ladies did protest too much' at us gents seeming inability to manage ourselves and our computers. Remember 'computers should be literal and obedient servants' and what do we find? They are our masters (mistresses sounds completely out of context here!). Therefore the rebelling computers must be women in which case that explains this:
    "To err is human but it requires a computer to really foul things up!" - these computers must be women computers because modern day ones are dual core or quadruple core, meaning they can multi-task, i.e. do more than one thing at a time.
    Us men are single cored which means we can to one thing only at a time, but do it PROPERLY!
    Did you know the reason why women can multi-task better than men (note I agree they can!)
    They have a lot more connections between the left and right side of the brain so the whole brain can be more readily used with greater efficiency than us men can when grapling very ably with complicated things like Einstein's Theory of Relativity instead of chatting about the washing, while gossipping with the neighbours, while cooking the meals, while holding the baby while . . . . .and so on! As a side issue it has been proven that ladies are able to tell 'porkies' much more convincingly that us men and to boot you can see through our miserable attempts to tell 'porkies' more easily than vice-versa. There is another spin off but I dare not mention it.
    It looks as though I am outnumbered to a considerable degree so I had better scarper quickly. Marcy, did you notice I have included some new English English words, 'scarper' = escape quickly and 'porky' = lie.
    As usual I enjoyed the post very much - pity I come a bit later than others who have already commented.
    Bye for now - love the blog ~ Eddie
  15. Very timely post for me - my laptop decided to misbehave. Every time I tried to sign on, it shut down...kind of like hide a seek! It made me so frustrated till I remembered I took out the insurance for this very thing! I called Dell and they walked me through getting it up and running again!
    I think there's a leeson in patience in there somewhere..but I'm not sure I realized it till I got frustrated!
  16. Hi Marcy, maybe Santa Claus will bring you a new computer this year if your very good....loved the post. I think all of us at one time or another have had frustrating times with our computers but your problem sounds like it's your keyboard..ummmmm
    Blogger has had problems lately as well so that compounds everything. I think you are strong and smart enough to handle it Marcy, so my money is on you! Have a great weekend my friend......:-) Hugs
  17. Eddie you are being bad beyond words, so as the village law enforcement person, I am going to have to lock you up in your own ambulance which is obviously male because of the way that it carries on and wails and screeches all the time, as well as the big flashy light business!
    Aund youu aure are single 'cored' and can do only one thing at a time properly and that is to get into BIG trouble!!! You will be happy to know that you have been such a success and that while being locked up in your ambulance we will provide in depth discussions of Einstein's Theory of Relativity (which he obviously STOLE from his wife) while keeping your siren running.
    Whew! I feel ever so much better knowing that justice is going to be meted out!
    Are you going to be not only a good boy now but a repentant one also?
  18. Blooming heck! She's a bit of a handful is this Marcy! Were you a twin? Just imagine two of you!! Would the world be able to cope? I'm glad you are not a policewoman or a barister or a teacher even!!
    What a lad od drivel (Enlish English for rubbish). Mrs Einstein was as thick as two short planks and . . . . . . as you correctly implied the other day Einstein was as thin as two long planks, implying sheer genius.
    I had hoped the ambulance journey might have helped - we did not need to turn on the siren - your screams cleared all the roads.
    Marcy, tell me, do you and your husband have conversations like this or do you have open days to invite stark raving lunatics to have tea and scones with you on hot summer days?
    Should I be a repentant ambulance man - maybe!
    or maybe not! What say the villagers? Am I guilty or inncocent of being a male chauvanist pig? btw Angie usually pitches into me round about now. Come on, you have a go too!!
    Marcy, love this stuff! My wife thinks I am barmy! She is probably correct!
    Bye for now
  19. Marcy, I think you have your own personal 'Donald' in Eddie! 'Love it! Enough said!
  20. I feel a little guilty (and blessed at the same time). My 'puter is operating quite handily. Do you all have Mozilla Firefox for your web browser? Some people have told me that it is my "secret". Very compatible with blogger, etc. It might be worth looking into. (I think it is free. At least, I've not paid for it...)Sure hope you get your problems solved. I KNOW it's no fun!
  21. Marcy!!!! Where are you??????
    Calling Marcy!!!!!!!!
    Tell me that the Bluelights didn't make good on his promise and come and take our Marcy away!!!!!!
  22. Hi Marcy! I'm sorry that your computer isn't cooperating...bad, bad, very bad computer!!
    They can cause such frustration that's for sure..
    I loved the Maxine picture...she's a funny one that Maxine...
    Loved the post...have a great weekend, despite the computer :)
    Love and Hugs....Jerelene
  23. This was so good that i printed off the cartoon and then the nurses at the hospital asked me to print off the Spanish joke so they could share it with others! Thank you thank you thank you!! You rock!
Comments are blessings too...
