A tip or two for you on Tuesday Tips

From Wikipedia, we learn...

"WD-40 is the trademark name of a water-displacing spray widely available in a variety of retail outlets. Developed in 1953 by Norm Larsen, founder of the Rocket Chemical Company, San Diego, California. It was originally designed to repel water and prevent corrosion,[1] and later was found to have numerous household uses.

WD-40 stands for Water Displacer. Larsen was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion, by displacing the standing water that promotes it. In the process, he arrived at a successful formula on his 40th attempt.[1] WD-40 is primarily composed of various hydrocarbons.

WD-40 was first used by Convair to protect the outer skin of the Atlas missile from rust and corrosion.[1][2] The product first became commercially available on store shelves in San Diego in 1958.[1]"

From a website devoted to WD 40 that claims over 2000 uses for it (just click to find out more)....

"Wonder How to Remove Grease & Protect Against Corrosion? WD-40 is the Answer!

Want to lubricate sticky drawers? Clean crayon from walls? Remove glue and adhesives? Look no further––WD-40 is the Answer. Learn thousands of new uses, from protecting ski bindings from corrosion to removing gum from hair and carpet, by browsing WD-40's 2000+ Uses List.

The uses of WD-40 described on this website were provided to WD-40 Company by end-users of the product, and do not constitute recommendations or suggestions for use of WD-40 by WD-40 Company. These uses, including the "Use of the Day," have not been tested by WD-40 Company. Consumers should exercise common sense whenever using WD-40. Always follow the instructions and take heed of any warnings printed on the
WD-40 packaging. "

I received this info in an e-mail, but I'm a little leery about a few of these....

"Ken East (one of the original founders) says "there is nothing in WD-40 that would hurt you..." When you read the "shower door" part, try it. It`s the first thing that has ever cleaned that spotty shower door. If yours is plastic, it works just as well as glass. It`is a miracle! Then try it on your stovetop... It is now shinier than it has ever been before.

1) Protects silver from tarnishing.
(Adds a delightful flavor to your next bite of food as well!)
2) Removes road tar and grime from cars.
(No more need for soap and water...what the heck, try bathing with it!)

3) Cleans and lubricates guitar strings.
(BUT can it make you play better or in my case, play at all?)
4) Gives floors that `just-waxed` sheen without making it slippery.
(Call me a skeptic, but using oil on a floor and no slipperiness...think it would give one that 'just fell down' look)
5) Keeps flies off cows.
(This one comes in so handy for the majority of us who have been so anxious to get a cow but have put it off due to the fly problem.)
6) Restores and cleans chalkboards.
(One of our esteemed bloggers, Jackie at Teacher's Pet can answer this one for us.)
7) Removes lipstick stains.
(AND leaves a nice lustrous greasy spot on the clothing.)
8) Loosens stubborn zippers.
(Ladies, help your poor husbands and start spraying all of his zippers...he's sure to thank you.)
9) Untangles jewelry chains.
10) Removes stains from stainless steel sinks.
(What happened to the stainless part in stainless sink??)
11) Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill.
(Think I need to watch them do this.)
12) Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing.
(Eileen would not like this as she is all for oxidation.)
13) Removes tomato stains from clothing.
(AND leaves oil?)
14) Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.
15) Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.
16) Keeps scissors working smoothly.
17) Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes.
(From the voice of experience, will also leave a nice puddle of oil if you don't put something under tha area to be sprayed.)
18) It removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor! Open some windows if you have a lot of marks.
(And you still enjoy breathing.)
19) Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car. Removed quickly, with WD-40!
(Have one of the children, each equipped with WD 40, ride on the hood, on the roof and on the trunk on long trips.)
20) Gives a children`s play gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.
(Gets them home for dinner faster too...they just slide across the yard and into the door ....make sure you leave your door open at all times.)
21) Lubricates gear shift on lawn mowers.
22) Rids kids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises.
(How about the squeaky kids themselves?)
23) Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open.
24) Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close.
(But can it stop them from getting turned inside out on a windy day?)
25) Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as vinyl bumpers.
26) Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.
27) Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans.
28) Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons, and bicycles for easy handling.
29) Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly.
(OK, everybody...start opening up your washers and dryers and spraying away!)
30) Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools.
31) Removes splattered grease on stove.
(And replaces it with oil...not a great idea near a flame.)
32) Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.
33) Lubricates prosthetic limbs.
(How about the all natural ones...they could REALLY use it?!)
34) Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).
35) Removes all traces of duct tape.
36) Folks even spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain .
(Think I've smelled a few of these people.)
37) Florida`s favorite use "Cleans and removes love bugs from grills and bumpers."
38) Protects the Statue of Liberty from the elements.
(Just glad I'm not the one going up and down the outside of the statue regularly with a can of WD 40!)
39) WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time.
40) Fire ant bites . It takes the sting away immediately and stops the itch.
(Will definitely be trying this one.)
41) WD-40 is great for removing crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag.
42) If you`ve washed and dried a tube of lipstick with a load of laundry, saturate the lipstick spots with WD-40 and re-wash. Presto! Lipstick is gone!
43) If you spray WD-40 on the distributor cap, it will displace the moisture and allow the car to start. "

Now for a few chuckles....

The joke about WD-40 ("for things that should move, but don’t") and duct tape ("for things that do move, but shouldn’t") dates to the 1990s.

The Cleaning Woman

There was a little old cleaning woman that went to visit the local church. When the invitation was given at the end of the service, she went forward wanting to become a member. The pastor listened as she told him how she had accepted Jesus and wanted to be baptized and become a member of the church.

The pastor thought to himself, "oh my, she is so unkempt, even smells a little, and her fingernails are not clean. She picks up garbage, cleans toilets - what would the members think of her." He told her that she needed to go home and pray about it and then decide.

The following week, here she came again. She told the pastor that she had prayed about it and still wanted to be baptized. "I have passed this church for so long. It is so beautiful, and I truly want to become a member."

Again the pastor told her to go home and pray some more. A few weeks later while out eating at the restaurant, the pastor saw the little old lady. He did not want her to think that he was ignoring her so he approached her and said, "I have not seen you for a while. Is everything all right?"

"Oh, yes," she said. "I talked with Jesus, and he told me not to worry about becoming a member of your church."

"He did?" said the pastor.

"Oh, yes" she replied. "He said even He hasn't been able to get into your church yet, and He's been trying for years."

Walking up to a department store's fabric counter, the pretty girl said, "I would like to buy this material for a new dress. How much does it cost?" "Only one kiss per yard," replied the male clerk with a smirk. "That's fine," said the girl. "I'll take ten yards." With expectation and anticipation written all over his face, the clerk quickly measured out the cloth, wrapped it up, then teasingly held it out.

The girl snapped up the package, smiled and pointed to the old geezer standing beside her, and smiled, "Grandpa will pay the bill."

"What time does the library open?" the man on the phone asked.
"Nine A.M." came the reply. "And what's the idea of calling me at home in the middle of the night to ask a question like that?"
"Not until nine A.M.?" the man asked in a disappointed voice.
"No, not till nine A.M.!" the librarian said. "Why do you want to get in before nine A.M.?"
"Who said I wanted to get in?" the man sighed sadly. "I want to get out."

Two confirmed bachelors sat talking, their conversation drifted from politics to cooking. "I got a cookbook once," said one, "but I could never do anything with it." "Too much fancy work in it, eh?" asked the other. "You said it. Every one of the recipes began the same
way - 'Take a clean dish."

~~~For the blessings of wholesome and safe solutions to cleaning problems and for the ability to keep ourselves wholesome and safe, I thank you God.
  2. Oh, I know Ray uses this all the time, but I'll have to ask him what exactly it is he uses it on! I'll report back!
    And I'll have to tell him and Donald about the fishing tip! They could have used that yesterday! Not one catch!
    And it keeps flies off cows? I wonder if that would work for people too? Sort of like Avon's Skin So Soft? We all could have used that yesterday at the beach!
    'Will write more later!
    I am running so late!
    I have to get to school to pick up Jayden's 'Admit To Class' card and I don't think I'm going to make it there in time! I guess I'll be dragging him and Mia there tomorrow!
    Let me run!
    Love you!, E
  3. Marcy, I am going out to buy WD 40 right now. It sounds like I could use around here on many things and something a widow with arthritis should have close by. Thanks for the info.
    Loved the jokes especially the church one.
    Have a great day my friend....:-) hugs
  4. Hello Marcy...
    I knew WD40 was good for numerous things in the home and garage, but never thought of that many examples. We all should have bought stock in WD40.
    Andrew and Dylan have been here all morning and Alivia is on her way down...We are baking Reese Peanut Butter Cup Cookies today.
    Really enjoyed the helpful facts today Marcy...
    Uh oh...Alivia just said Boo...she's here...I'm gone!
  8. wow! WD-40 is a staple in our home although I have never seen it used in so many ways. I definitely am going to try it out, other than I think it really smells! Especially the duck tape thing! I did a red-neck thing and duck-taped my bumper on my car when I sorta ran into someone, and the cost is sooo expensive to replace since my car is gray....and duct tape is gray....well...I saved myself about 600$'s LOL but I need to remove some of the tape from my car's body! hehehehe I will let you know!
  10. It seems to me that, rather than mess about bokmarking the website, what one ought to do is, every time some little domestic problem crops up THINK: "Do I need the WD-40 here?"
    There's been a can of it under my kitchen sink for years. Never been used. Probably need to spray it with WD-40 to free the squirter. Maybe I should stop screaming at Keith to "Get this bloody oil can out of my kitchen".
    I wonder why they don't make giant economy family-size packs of it?
    Tee hee - I shall be chuckling at this post all night! It's the way you tell 'em!
    love, Angie
  11. Rats! I thought I was telling Ray something new but Mr.-Know-It-All had already heard all these uses for WD40!
    I asked him why they didn't use it on their bait and he said he forgot! Give me a break!
  12. You have a ROCKING AND BRILLIANT sense of humor Marcy! So enjoyed this post and really liked the librarian and cookbook joke :D
  13. Jokes were great! And we've used the WD40 a few of those ways. I'm like someone else - the smell is disagreeable to me. Could SOMEBODY come up with lavender scent - or maybe vanilla? (two of my personal favorites).
    And then we could have home parties - like Pampered Chef - extolling and demonstrating the various uses and latest scents and packaging innovations?
    OK. That's my idea and I'm dating it 9/2/09 so that if anyone steals it, I'll have documentation that I "own" it!
  14. Did you fall off the face of the earth? Should I be worried?
    I think WD40 stinks! (Not the smell actually, it's strong but it doesn't bother me that much), but I tried using it today to get spots off my Aunt's kitchen floor and it didn't work, and it didn't clean spots off her refrigerator either! I finally just took Dawn dish washing liquid and a scrubbing sponge and elbow grease, that did the trick!
    'Hope to "see" you tomorrow!
    Good night.
    Love you, E
  15. Marcy, this was amazing..I don't know if I'm ready to put it on my aches and pains yet though...I might stick with Icy-Hot. And now I know what to do to keep the flies off my cow if I ever get one..:)
    We've only used it on squeaky doors in the house..
    As usual, a great post!!
    Love and Hugs, Jerelene
