***Marcy Poppins Popping Back In***

Where did Poppins go?
Oh where can she be?
Did she go to see a show
Or a grandson at Karate?
She went to see a friend
She went to bring a smile
And visit for awhile
But really, in the end
Some parts in her did mend.
For the blessings, you see
though for Cheryl were meant to be
Humbly came right back to me
And blessed us all three incredibly.
Well, I brought some photos of Sadie May, our stray, with me on my visit to Ria, hoping they would 'charm' her or 'disarm' her feelings of anxiousness about this pit bull stray, but she just looked and said nothing...
Hopefully we will get a call from the vet's office saying that her state approved (and paid for) spaying has been okayed and then she might get spayed this Friday (please dear Lord). Plans call for still giving another try to finding a loving home for her, but if not, she may become ours...
Since I can't give you pictures of Ria's family (due to her uncomfortableness with online stalkers etc.), I will give you a pretty 'incognito' photo of Julia with Jonathan's older karate belt on and he now has graduated to the next level and is the proud owner of a purple belt.....

My planned visit with Cheryl turned out to be one of the short shifts ( 3 hours) of people staying with her. When Carolyn asked if I'd like to stay for a shift that someone else couldn't make, I said "Absolutely."
As always, Cheryl was loving and gracious and the swelling had gone down in her legs completely so she was able to walk. When I asked Carolyn if she thought Cheryl would want pictures, she said "I doubt it, since she looks so bad now." So, I said nothing and surprise, Cheryl said she'd like to take pictures! Now Cheryl just turned 53 yrs. old and is younger than Carolyn and I, but cancer has made her look older. This picture was taken in Cheryl's living room where her hospital bed is located off to the right of us.....

We talked and talked about funny things that happened at the bank. We did a little serious talking too and Cheryl choked up once and then we started laughing again. Cheryl did mention that she had some things she'd still like to do and hoped that maybe she had a couple of years left (please keep this is prayer for her).
Being my crazy self, I asked for a goofy photo and got one...

1. The Nature of Friendship
"Friendship essentially involves a distinctive kind of concern for your friend, a concern which might reasonably be understood as a kind of love. Philosophers from the ancient Greeks on have traditionally distinguished three notions that can properly be called love: agape, eros, and philia. Agape is a kind of love that does not respond to the antecedent value of its object but instead is thought to create value in the beloved; it has come through the Christian tradition to mean the sort of love God has for us persons as well as, by extension, our love for God and our love for humankind in general. By contrast, eros and philia are generally understood to be responsive to the merits of their objects—to the beloved's properties, especially his goodness or beauty. The difference is that eros is a kind of passionate desire for an object, typically sexual in nature, whereas ‘philia’ originally meant a kind of affectionate regard or friendly feeling towards not just one's friends but also possibly towards family members, business partners, and one's country at large (Liddell et al., 1940; Cooper, 1977a). Given this classification of kinds of love, philia seems to be that which is most clearly relevant to friendship (though just what philia amounts to needs to be clarified in more detail)."

My only regret over this precious and enjoyable visit is that I did not pray over her. I talked about praying for her and having her on our church's prayer chain , but I really wish that I would have prayed over her as well...sometimes I could kick myself!! Here's what can happen when you try to hold the camera and take a picture of all of the people together...

And if that goofiness above didn't make you smile, maybe these will.....

Confucius Say ...
Confucius say, "When you are angry at neighbor, walk a mile in his shoes. Then you will be a mile away from him, and you will have his shoes!"

Hot Horseradish
A minister who was very fond of pure, hot horseradish always kept a bottle of it on his dining room table. Once, at dinner, he offered some to a guest, who took a big spoonful. The guest let out a huge gasp. When he was finally able to speak, he choked out, "I've heard many ministers preach hellfire, but you are the first one I've met who passes out a sample of it."

  1. Welcome Home!
I think Cheryl looks beautiful! And I love the spirit she exudes. I can see joy in her.
I'm glad you were able to spend time with her, and even though you didn't do formal prayer over her, you ministered to her in a very meaningful way.

    Julia is adorable!
    Congratulations to Jonathan!
And best of luck with Sadie May and I hope things work out that all family meshes nicely together!

    Great jokes!
    Love you!, E

  2. I missed you! I just knew you were the kind of friend that I would want....I know Cheryl was blessed by your visit, just look at her beautiful smile. I believe you were doing God's work by doing a shift not only physically but with your heart, that is a prayer Marcy.
Oh Julia is so cute and I know how proud you are of Jonathan.
I also hope everything works out for Sadie May, she is so cute.....my prayers are with you, your family and with Cheryl. I am so pleased you had this time with her, welcome home.

  3. Well I suspected that I had grown up but now I know for sure! What a shame I will have to work to resolve this grown up nonsense!

It sounds like you had a very nice visit with friends and family Marcy. I can see what you mean about Cheryl now that I have seen her photo. You can see the aura of warmth around her! So glad you were able to brighten her day with your infectious spirit. Good for you both I think!

Sadie Mae looks very happy at your home Marcy. I hope everything works out well for her.

It's nice to have you home again Marcy and thank you for the lovely E card, it was very sweet! Love you, Di

  5. Marcy, what an inspiration you are. This is truly the Lord's work, we hear tell about: joyfully caring for our friends in good times and bad. Still praying for Cheryl. I'm so glad you're there for her and that she has what looks like a really great support network. I'm thinking that if it's God's Will, you're going to get that chance to pray with, for, and over your friend. He knows your desire -- and likely it's as good as done.

  6. Now I know for SURE than I'm "grown up"!
Another reason I know is that I'm a little more than concerned about Sadie Mae....Are you sure her being around children is good?

How blessed is Cheryl to have your friendship - and you hers! Good to spend a minute or two "with you".

  7. Welcome Home, my forever friend! Missed you and your blog. I too agree with a number of the comments... now I know for sure I'm a grown up! Marcy, you are such a good friend and don't beat yourself up for not praying with them. You still can, I do a lot of that over the phone with people.

    Hugz, my Friend!

  9. Hi Marcy I missed your poppin home party...have been gone most of the day and then grandkids came over...It really is nice to have you back at your spot in the village.

Cheryl does seem to glow with happiness even with her medical condition she still has a warm smile. My DIL's mother had brain cancer...she passed before Alivia was born. I hope Cheryl has many more good days ahead like the one you help provide for her.

    Smiles,
    Wanda

Cheryl looks beautiful. I love that "goofy" photo! I hope and pray that she recovers from her illness.
Thank you so much for your comment on my blog -I will reply to it later today (have to get ready for work now).
    Love,
    Marina x

  12. Welcome home Marcy. The place isn't the same without you. Us villagers all milling about, wondering what we should do next, where our next chuckle was coming from.

Little Sadie May, what a little cracker she looks, and her EYES! American Pit Bulls (not being racist here) are banned in this country. At least I suppose they still are on the banned list. I know they have a reputation for being a bit dodgy but I've always thought how a dog turns out is due as much to nurture as to nature. Best of luck with her and I hope it all turns out well for her - and you.

Spending time with Cheryl, ministering to her needs, talking with her, prayng with her, being daft - all just what the doctor ordered. And if God had meant you to do anything more at that time you would have known it. If it's His wish that you should pray over her, then He'll give you that opportunity.

If I ever find myself in Ceryl's position, I wouldn't mind having a friend like you.

    love, Angie, xx

  13. Seems like you had a nice visit with a dear friend. Will keep her in my prayers that she gets to do all she wants!

    Like the mushroom pictures!!

  14. Time for me to comment to the comments as I might not get a chance to post today with so much to do, but who knows?

***Eileen, it's always good to be back. I can really feel the love and kindness in this village of ours...it's a HUGE village for sure, but wonderful also. And you are right, Cheryl does show her love and kindness in her sweet smile. will be mailing out some more jokes and booklets to her today.

***You just make me (and everyone) feel so good with you wonderful comments, Bernie. I do love making people smile so I guess I used that 'ministry' with Cheryl.

***Di, it's important to remember that growing older is mandatory, growing up is optional, so you and I are safe...whew.
Some people (like you) have been writing Sadie Mae and think I will use that spelling instead of Sadie May. If you could see her, you would know that she is full of 'marshmellows' inside...she would run away from you faster than you could possibly run away from her in a Farrari! For Pete's sake , the little cat scared her.

***You are ever so sweet and so active and so giving. Cathy, thank you for your kind comment.

***Thank you for keeping Cheryl in prayer Lisa, for it is surely the reason she is having so many good days. Good Lord willing there will be more visits with Cheryl and then I can pray over her but meanwhile I will do it from a distance.

***Rebecca, I do treasure my own and other little ones so I will make sure all is well if anyone comes around Sadie Mae but she is priobably less danger than a Jack Russell or Chihuahua. She is finally not cowering when we go to pet her but even a harsh word makes her do a belly crawl.

***Tamara, in case God doesn't bless me with the opportunity, I will pray over Cheryl with a phone call. What a nice surprise to have a comment from you..thx!

  15. Blogger scares me, so I am doing this in two parts so I don't lose it all.

By the way, the good news is that Sadie Mae got approved for heer spaying and is scheduled to get spayed tomorrow, Friday morning.

***Faye, thank you so much for letting me know about Jackie's mom as I have been praying for her.

***Marina, I took an even goofier photo of Cheryl and me with our arms outstretched...it really made her laugh. She does exude a spirit of warmth and love.

***Angie, you can keep us all in stitches so easily with your clever posts. It is such a sad situation with animals when they get categorized a certain way and in reality they can be so docile that it is ridiculous like pitiful little Sadie Mae who is afraid of her own shadow.
Please know that I will always be here for you in any way I can, even if I could cook you some of my famous healing chicken soup.

***Thank you for keeping Cheryl in your prayers, Lois, that means so much to me. I understand your feeling about pit bulls but this one is so pitiful, even Michael says she should be classified as flower girl rather than a pit bull.

May God shower the finest of blessings on all of you always!!

Your friend looks beautiful, even though she is fighting such a battle. She will be in my prayers.
Julia looked so adorable in that karate belt..and those tiny little crocks on her feet!
She's just begging to be hugged looking so cute!

  19. Dear Marcy I'm so glad to see your back. I continue to pray for your friend. Cheryl is very blessed to have such a network of supportive friends as all of you are. I'm glad you got her smiling and laughing, but if anyone could do that I knew it would be you. God has given you a special gift to light up the life of others. Your dogs are precious! Looking at their little faces I can see they belong together. I have a feeling God has sent you another gift. I hope you have a lovely day.
