Recovering from the Beach

Traveling at 4:00 a.m. is not all it's cracked up to be...in fact, I think you might need to be a little "cracked" to do it. Kelly was my co-pilot and the "keeper awaker of the driver", but that's hard to do when she got so little sleep due to being sooo excited! Kelly was excited from the day she learned about her special birthday gift and the excitement only grew.
The first thing we had to do upon arrival, before even eating, was to go look at the beach, so here is Kelly, fresh from the car, as we walk toward the beach and she is saying over and over "the beach, the beach..."

Kelly has a lot of child-like innocence and actions about her, so her delight was contagious and I was thrilled with her reaction. Now, is this a happy face or what?.....

She can't believe how much water is here...she said it just goes on and on. This could be the part where I am saying (whining?)"Can we please go eat some breakfast now?"

After a nice hearty breakfast at "The Breakfast Club" we wasted no time and went to see the famous Tybee Island lighthouse. Instead of just taking the picture of the Lighthouse, I should have calculated how high up this thing went!! After huffing and puffing up several spiral stairs, I then made the foolish mistake of asking someone on the way down if we were almost there. This "kind" soul informed me that we had just begun and were maybe a third of the way up...waaah!! So, as we huffed and puffed going up and up, all I could think of is the fact that we had been told that long ago the keepers had to go up this thing TWICE a day. So, my mind is saying 'Forget the Lighthouse, just give me pictures of the brave people who did this and let me SALUTE them."

Once atop this HUGE Lighthouse, we get onto the narrow walkway at the top, so I take Kelly's picture while praying that those creaks I hear are not indicating some structural damage. Another thought crosses my mind as to how this might induce a fear of heights in someone who never had it before!!
After this, it was only an hour or so before we could check into our room, so I waited and half fell asleep in the registration room while Kelly went back to....the beach!
Superman being faster than a speeding bullet had nothing on Kelly getting ready to get in that beach water, so off we went...

Kelly laughed and laughed over this next picture when she first saw it and said it was her favorite, so I have to post it for you.....

Even though I did not give birth to Kelly, she is my 'heart' (step) daughter and I love, care for and worry about her. She has such a sweet nature and wants everyone and everything to be 'all good'. And I want her to live a long healthy life, so she has recently joined weight watchers and I pray you will eventually get pictures of a trim and fit Kelly. But just look at the delight on this sweet face...she made the trip so worthwhile and enjoyable...

We brought back a good portion of the beach in the form of sand. Michael took yesterday off, so I didn't post then. He had been working a 15 hour and 25 hour day back to back , so I didn't even see him till 4:30 a.m. the day after we got back!!!

Hmmm...let's see where that big joke book is....

A couple lived near the ocean and used to walk the beach a lot. One summer they noticed a girl who was at the beach pretty much every day. She wasn't unusual, nor was the travel bag she carried, except for one thing; She would approach people who were sitting on the beach, glance around, then speak to them.
Generally, the people would respond negatively and she would wander off, but occasionally someone would nod and there would be a quick exchange of money for something she carried in her bag. The couple assumed she was selling drugs and debated calling the cops, but since they didn't know for sure they just continued to watch her.
After a couple of weeks the wife asked, "Honey, have you ever noticed that she only goes up to people with boom boxes and other electronic devices?"
He hadn't and said so. Then she said, "Tomorrow I want you to get a towel and our big radio and go lie out on the beach. Then we can find out what she's really doing."
Well, the plan went off without a hitch, and the wife was almost hopping up and down with anticipation when she saw the girl talk to her husband and then leave. The man walked up the beach and met his wife at the road.
"Well, is she selling drugs?" she asked excitedly."
No, she's not." he said, enjoying this probably more than he should have. "Well, what is it, then?" his wife fairly shrieked.
The man grinned and said. "Her name is Sally and she's a battery salesperson."

"Batteries?" cried the wife ............................................

"Yes" he replied. "Sally sells C cells by the Seashore."

Beach Date

Our first day at a resort my wife and I decided to hit the beach. When I went back to our room to get something to drink, one of the hotel maids was making our bed. I grabbed my cooler and was on my way out when I paused and asked, "Can we drink beer on the beach?" "Sure," she said, "but I have to finish the rest of the rooms first."

  1. Looks like an exciting adventure!! I'm glad it was a good time for your family - that is so important.

And thank you for the comments on my blog about the blood meal to scare off the rabbit. Much of what I have planted is in containers. I took time this morning to raise them. But, I'd done that once before and the bunny still found a way to get to them! I think this is a bionic bunny or something!

Thanks for the visit and comments! You have a nice blog here.

  5. Why are you never hungry in the beach
Because of all the SANDwiches there. Geddit?

We once, years ago, climbed the 365 (I think) steps to the top of York Minster. It was a tiny narrow spiral staircase with stone steps worn away through centuries of feet. There was a solid line of tourists going up on the left and, at the same time, a solid line of school trips coming down on the right. The view from the top (when we got there) was magnificant but - oh - the temptation to look for a quick way down!

Kelly is beautiful, such a pretty, smiley face. I wish her success at WeightWatchers. We owe it to God to take good care of the body he gave us to keep our soul in.

    love, Angie, xx

  12. Hi Marcy,
I loved your post about going to the beach with Kelly. I remember the first time I saw the ocean I was totally in awe, and when my kids went out into the water they were shocked to find it really tasted that salty. They, like Kelly spent hours in the surf and loved every minute of it. I got tossed around and smacked on the ground once by the surf, and now I sort of choose to just sit on the sand. I love the smells, the sights, the sounds of the ocean, and it makes you feel so humble and small. I also love lighthouses...I have never been in one, but one day I would love to do that...think I will put it on my dreamboard! I am so glad you had a wonderful time at the beach and with Kelly, she seems to be delightful!

Thanks for your kind comment on my blog today, as always. You make my day when you pop along ~ thanks for being a great blog-friend (I only wished you weren't across the water, so then you could be a real life friend!)
    God bless you today,

  14. Well I'm not happy. You said you would be back on line yesterday, Wednesday. Last time I looked it was Thursday. So you were a little tired. So you hardly saw Michael. While we bloggy friends were struggling trying to keep the blog world alive, you were out frolicking in the ocean. And you didn't even write a poem! Honestly Marcy, it's just too quite when you are gone. But it sounds like you had a joyful time. Perhaps they should install a lift in the lighthouse!

  15. She looks to be having a blast. The ocean is my comfort & my strength. I love the sound, the smell & the feeling of the powerful waves washing over me. What an amazing first you just gave her. Hurray for you and may she never ever quiet her inner child. May she play on forever. Blessings to you and yours.

  16. Welcome Home, Marcy! We missed you!
This is a very sweet post, and Kelly is a very sweet girl. And she looks like you gave birth to her with her red hair, and I would say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree with her sweet disposition!
So glad to have you back, friend!!

And, I'm going to have to do something to Diana because I just read her comment and spit coffee out AGAIN!! It's my own fault, I keep saying I won't eat or drink when I read her, and yet I continue to punish myself!

And she's right, it has been quiet around here without you!

Okay, I only had a little time while Mia was napping! Let me run!
    Love you,
    Eileen

And no, I'm not going to quit blogging. I also want want to stay in touch with you! I might not post every day, and not always in both languages (I was going to do it today but was sooooo tired!) but I will keep on posting. And visiting you, of course.

  18. Hi Marcy!! How wonderful that Kelly had such a great time at the beach!! I always do, too!! I get out in those waves and act just like a kid myself! We haven't been to Tybee but to Jekyll and St. Simons. The beach photos on my blog are of Daytona Beach, and I took them. The water at Daytona is actually much prettier than it looks in my photos. The undertow stirs it up sometimes and it looks like the Atlantic waters that ebb and flow from the GA tidal marshes.

You have a delightful spirit, sweet bloggy friend, and I'm so glad you enjoyed your time on Tybee!!

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!!
    Love,
    Becky

  19. HI Marcy

I have lived 20 minutes from the coast all my life so it is quite interesting to find someone who has never seen the ocean before. Looks like you had a wow of a time!

I remember going to Hawaii in 1985 and someone from Wyoming (I think) was on our bus tour. They had never seen the ocean before and their exclamations were so funny. "Oh, my God! Its so salty! OMG! OMG!" We had a good giggle.
I hope Kelly does well with her weight loss. Simple home cooked low fat food is best - I really like Weight Watchers. It teaches you to eat and prepare good healthy food instead of substituting it for shakes and pills.

    Cheers - Joolz
