Favorites...An Angel & Earring Racks

This favorite is an angel that one of the women in my grief group in Phoenix, AZ bought for everyone in our group and then specially added a red ribbon and wrote on it with gold ink. Mine says "In loving memory of my husband Mario... June 6, 2003." I was hoping you could see that but neither the angel nor the writing on the ribbon photographed well...
There is a little gold and very sweet heart underneath the angel's neck. This grief group was like a life raft to me as I was thrown into the middle of the "ocean of grieving" and that is why I advise anyone going through this process to find grief counselors (many are completely free), church workshops on grief, books, movies and multiple grief groups if possible.

Now you are about to be let in on one of my 'addictions'..."Hello, everyone, my name is Marcy and I am an earringaholic." Strangely enough, I wear very little jewelry...in fact, I had to 'teach' myself to wear the two additional little rings on my right hand. But...earrings...Whoa Nelly and Whoa Everyone Else...a serious weakness here!! You can imagine my delight when several years ago, my late hubby and I happened upon these earring racks at a Renaissance Festival....

This is a picture of the two of them side by side. Originally they were inside the doors of an old dresser I had, but now Michael put them on this closet wall for me. In case you are thinking this doesn't look like that many earrings, let me tell you that these are the tip of the iceberg and that I have gone through multiple times and given away tons of earrings!

This should be an 'everyone's favorite'...it is a series of three photos I made of the morning sunrise here in Georgia just a few days ago...

I went downstairs to let Tinka out and and saw this beautiful panorama...

So I had to capture it from every angle....

I found this on the Internet and wanted to share it with you....

Gifts that Do Not Cost A Cent

"THE GIFT OF LISTENING... But you must REALLY listen. No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning your response. Just listening.

THE GIFT OF AFFECTION...Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back and handholds. Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and friends.

THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER...Clip cartoons. Share articles and funny stories. Your gift will say, "I love to laugh with you."

THE GIFT OF A WRITTEN NOTE...It can be a simple "Thanks for the help" note or a full sonnet. A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime, and may even change a life.

THE GIFT OF A COMPLIMENT... A simple and sincere, "You look great in red," "You did a super job" or "That was a wonderful meal" can make someone's day.

THE GIFT OF A FAVOR... Every day, go out of your way to do something kind.

THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE... There are times when we want nothing better than to be left alone. Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.

THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION... The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone, really it's not that hard to say, Hello or Thank You."
Time to tickle your funny bone with a timely joke (or two or three...
THE NEW CLOCK
As a young man is showing off his apartment to friends, a college student led the way into the den. "What is the big brass gong and hammer for?" one of his friends asked. "That is the talking clock", the man replied. "How's it work?" the friend asked. "Watch", the man said then proceeded to give the gong an ear shattering pound with the hammer. Suddenly someone screamed from the other side of the wall. "KNOCK IT OFF, YOU IDIOT! It's two o'clock in the morning!

Two Engines

A large two engine train was crossing America. After they had gone some distance one of the engines broke down.
"No problem," the engineer thought, and carried on at half-power. Further on down the line, the other engine broke down, and the train came to a standstill. The engineer decided he should inform the passengers about why the train had stopped, and made the following announcement:
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that both engines have failed, and we will be stuck here for some time. The good news is that this is a train and not a plane. "

The Koala Bear

A Koala bear walks into a bar, sits down and orders a sandwich and the bartender brings him a sandwich. The Koala eats the sandwich and gets up, spins around, pulls a pistol out of his pouch, shoots the piano player in the foot, and proceeds to walk out of the bar.
The bartender, in shock, shouts to the Koala, "Hey who do you think you are, you ate my sandwich and shot my piano player in the foot, and just where do you think your going??! "
The Koala replies, "Hey I'm a Koala. Look it up."
The frustrated bartender pulls out a dictionary from behind the bar and looks up

Koala:

"n. a marsupial that eats shoots and leaves."

Stay
A man pulled into the crowded parking lot at the
Local Shopping Center and rolled down the car windows to make sure his Labrador Retriever Pup had fresh air. She was stretched full-out on the back seat. And he wanted to impress upon her that she must remain there. He walked to the curb backward, pointing his finger at the car and saying emphatically, 'Now you stay. Do you hear me? Stay! Stay!'
The driver of a nearby car, a pretty blond young lady, gave him a strange look and said, 'Why don't you just put it in park?'

~~~Thank You Heavenly Father for the blessings of beautiful sunrises and sunsets, may we praise You for them all.
  2. Good morning Marcy...you are an earringaholic to the 10th degree...when not wearing them, they make a great wall display...you do have a large supply to pick from...and a variety of designs...you would be easy to shop for.
    I noticed the angel, with the inscription showed up better in the photo of the 2 racks, if you enlarge the photo.
    Have a good weekend Marcy,
    Wanda
  3. I enjoyed hearing about all your favorites and enjoyed the pictures of them all. Very beautiful sunrise!
    And such a nice keepsake that angel is.
    And your earring addiction is adorable! I like them all, especially the pumpkins and the parrots! I don't have pierced ears so that's one obsession I don't have.
    I enjoyed this post, Marcy. And I enjoyed all the jokes too (and I'm sending the blond one to Ray's sister Susie!).
    Love you,
    Eileen
  4. Wanda's right about the angel!
    We'd know what to get for your birthday wouldn't we? I love to look at earrings but I look silly wearing them, specially the dangly ones as I don't have much of a neck and they get stuck on my shoulders!
    love, Angie, xx
  6. Hi Marcy,
    I think earings are a wonderful obsession, I would have that obsession too except I am always losing one. For me they go to that place in the sky where pens, and socks go. I did really enjoy your 'Gifts that do not cost a cent', especially the one on affection. I never really give enough or get enough of hugs or hand holding these days.
  7. **~~**For anyone coming back here to check on comments or re-read some goofiness of mine, I would like to tell you that Jackie @Teacher's Pet called me to say that her Internet server is down and she cannot comment or even go to her own site. She said to tell you to please forgive her for not commenting...on the other hand, some sort of reprimand might just be in order here...I, for one, am going to eat some fattening foods and send all the calories to her. Come one, come all, eat all the naughty stuff you want and give it to Jackie...but not to worry, she will go down the rapids one more time and lose it easily!
    ***Cathy, you are scaring me because I do have a few teeny tiny(depending on how you look at it...realistically or from la la land) other collections and refrigerator magnets make such great souvenirs for self that I just may have this addiction.
    ****Wanda, there are so many more earrings that don't fit on those racks or are more expensive and not just 'fun' earrings.
    You've also got Superman/woman eyesight because I clicked to enlarge and can't read squat (of course, squat is not written on the ribbon...thank heavens!)
    ***Angie, you too can see what I can't? This is getting scary! And ssshhh, keep it quiet because my birthday is coming up (haven't decided how old I am going to be, yet) and I am trying to encourage my family to get little and unique Nativity sets (my super major addiction)for me...actually would LOVE an inexpensive hand made one. You are too funny (as always) and I think you need to get long dangly earrings and they could double as a necklace too!
    ****Oh, Tammy what a lovely inspiration you are...that you truly try to practice these free gifts. I try too, but I need to make a list so I get them all done everyday in lots of ways. PLEASE find me a 12 step program for earrings, magnets and nativity sets...maybe even blogging!
    ***Eileen, if you DID have pierced ears, would you be an earringaholic? Come on, make me feel better and say yes! You are such a great collecter, this is fairly small and easy...what do you think?
    ***Teresa, I can't begin to tell you how many single earrings I have lost, so finally I have decided, if I like these earrings enough, I will put a backing on the left ear (It is pierced at any angle and earrings like to work their way our of that ear or hang in a wacky way.) I am sending a hug your way right now and you DO good hugging, but it is cyber space!! Here are the {{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}
  8. Hello my dear friend, it is so good to be back and reading your post. I love your earring racks and what a good idea. I too love angels, oh Marcy I too have addictions, I have so much jewellry and every piece has a memory and I love every piece, angels are another favorite of mine and no one should have the closets full of clothes that I have. It seems the more I share my favorites with others the more they multiply and return to me. I thought of you at every Mass when I was away as I knew you would be attending Mass as well. Take care my friend and I hope to catch up on all your post I missed while away......:-) Hugs
  9. Uh oh...looks like I could be in trouble here if Bernie
    REALLY catches up on past posts of mine! If she finds out about my BIG goof up from my "New Goofiness..." or the "one cuckoo bird and one cuckoo redhead" post this month, I could go to blog detention, so shhh, no one say anything...
  10. Love the pictures!
    I shared the jokes with my kids . . . we all had a good time laughing!
  11. Marcy.....I would have MADE sure Bernie found about all of the above-mentioned things had you not been a dear...an absolute dear and posted to the Village that I was not snubbing anyone's comments....I just can't stand it when the internet goes down. I call them....(the powers that be....and we have to go through the whole thing (which I have already done....) and then they tell me there are no outages in the area. I know better....so, I'm patient.....and patience paid off. I can connect this afternoon. Thank you again Marcy for being my spokesperson....
    I love the fact that you love and collect earrings and don't wear them. Makes sense to me.... :))) I'll be back later, my friend.
    Again, a big thank you from Jackie to you.
    I'll be mum to Bernie....She doesn't know that her leaving almost caused a snafu in Villageland....:)))
    Smiles to you, my friend,
    Jackie
  12. Hi Marcy
    Love the blog and post and I will sign up after I do this comment.
    Got the message about Jackie not being able to access her on-line server - I know from experience that is annoying.
    Tell her please (if you have some other means of communication loke the Tom Tom drums or something like that) I shall look forward to her glowing comments, fantastic posts, words of wisdom, and miles and miles of smiles. As for you, Marci, nice to meet you and my best wishes ~ Eddie
  15. Wow, so much to read. I'm a little behind in my blog reading and commenting. Your post today was so beautiful. I loved the pictures and your Angel is so sweet. The 'funnies' are making me smile, as I reread them...trying to remember them to tell my friend who's in the hospital still. She's on the mend, by the way. Thank you Lord, You answered my prayers. Have a great weekend Marcy. <3
  16. I know, I know I'm late again. In real life I'm always on time or early, really I am.
    Very sweet memory angel Marcy. I can imagine how special that must be to you.
    And all of those earrings, my gosh woman! Do you wear them sleeping too? I am envious Marcy as I cannot wear earrings even the hypo-allergenic ones. Or however you spell that! I would wear them all the time if I could. I do however love, love, love bracelets!
    Your sunrise was gorgeous,glad you were able to get the shots of it!
    I wish I could have been there with you!
  17. Hi Marcy, I love your earring racks! What a great idea. I do love your pics! What great shots you got! Hope you have a great Saturday, my friend! I love coming here and reading your entries!
  18. Well, Marcy, I actually have the same problem as Diana, even if my ears were pierced I have a problem in that I get rashes from lots of jewelry. BUT, if I did have pierced ears, and I didn't have an allergic reaction to the earrings, I would have tons and tons of earrings! I did actually used to wear the clip-ons and I would paint my earrings with clear nail polish so I wouldn't break out, but then I figured it just wasn't worth it.
    Now, when exactly is your birthday, Marcy, my friend?! Exact date and time and year of your birth and exact birthplace, and the name that's on your birth certificate please! Nah, I'm just kidding, just tell us when your birthday is!
    Good night, Marcy.
    Love, E
  19. I LOVE the earring addiction! I'd like to see some pictures of you modeling your favorites, most gaudy, largest, smallest, etc. I tried to catch up with you and couldn't speed read through those stress eating helps. I need to copy them and read them thoughtfully. (Your funny stuff, I breeze right through!) I pass on many of your funnies and send them to my sister who works in a dentist's office. She passes them on to co-workers who seem to spend a lot of time laughing at work. Since she doesn't live in Canada, I guess I can conclude it's not where Bernie is getting her dental work done. Parade this morning at 10:00. I serve refreshments on my porch, so I'd better scoot!
